The UK’s only major fertiliser manufacturer, GrowHow UK, is to rebrand as CF Fertilisers UK under a new managing director.
The changes follow Chicago-based CF Industries (CFI)’s acquisition of its former joint venture partner Yara International’s 50% equity in the business earlier this year (ATN July 3rd). GrowHow UK was established in 2007 through the joint venture merger of the UK’s two existing fertiliser manufacturers – Kemira GrowHow, owned by Yara, and Terra Industries, the US business which had acquired ICI Fertilisers’ assets in 1997. Terra was bought by CFI in 2010.
David Hopkins, previously sales director at CFI’s headquarters in the US, has been appointed managing director of the UK business. He started his 30 year career with ICI’s agricultural division at Billingham where he was director of industrial sales before moving to the US in 2006 with Terra Industries.
“Farmers rely on our teams at Ince and Billingham because of the great service and excellent product quality we have provided for years,” Mr Hopkins states. “As CF Fertilisers UK, our focus remains on our farmer customers and how to improve the value we offer them each day.
“CF Fertilisers UK will continue to invest in and manufacture at both Ince and Billingham so that we efficiently produce the market-leading fertilisers that farmers rely on to optimise crop performance and yields. And we’ll continue to advise our farmers about how to use our products in the most efficient way possible.”
The new CF livery will be rolled out from early November. CF will retain the Nitram brand for its UK manufactured ammonium nitrate fertilisers.
