James Robertson, chairman of Agrovista UK, is to retire from the business at the end of this year after 43 years of dedicated service to the company and its legacy organisations. However, from January 2016 he will be taking up a consultancy role advising Agrovista owner Marubeni Europe on its agricultural strategy in the UK, Europe and beyond.
Mr Robertson became managing director of Agrovista UK in 2001 on its formation through the merger of Profarma and Crop Care. He was instrumental in overseeing the growth of the company to become one of the leading distributors in the UK crop protection industry.
After graduating in agriculture from Edinburgh University, Mr Robertson initially joined the Fisons Agrochemical Division as a graduate trainee in 1972, with his subsequent career involving many roles and structures and giving him a huge knowledge of the industry and people within it.
This knowledge and experience has also helped industry bodies ranging from the Agricultural Industries Confederation to North East Biofuels and he also served as chairman and senior judge for the Farm Business Food and Farming Awards.
“We thank James for his outstanding contribution to Agrovista UK and wish him a long and happy retirement,” says Agrovista managing director Chris Clayton. “His input, guidance and passion for the company and industry as a whole have been a tremendous driving force in developing the business. His knowledge and wisdom have not only developed Agrovista, but also many other individuals and businesses within the sector. We will continue to build on his hard work and vision.”
