KWS Siskin upgraded to Group 2

The KWS-UK winter wheat variety KWS Siskin has been upgraded from a Group 4 to a Group 2 ranking, following a successful appeal by the breeder.

In November 2015, the National Association of British and Irish Millers (nabim)’sVarieties Working Group classified KWS Siskin as a nabim Group 4 variety following milling and baking tests.

KWS appealed this decision on the grounds that the variety had characteristics more similar to Group 2 performance and that the nabim decision had given undue weight to one data set. The nabim members undertook further comparative testing and considered the appeal this week.

This is the first appeal against a decision made by the nabim Varieties Working Group. KWS Siskin now joins the 2016/17 Recommended List as a Group 2 winter wheat variety.
