The German agribusiness and industrials conglomerate BayWa has bought the full ownership of Evergrain, the international malting barley trader, after buying a majority share last summer.
Evergrain is registered in Zug, Switzerland although its main trading desk is in Hamburg. It predominantly sources barley from Western Europe, Australia and Argentina for maltster and brewery customers. It will now trade as Evergrain – a BayWa Company.
BayWa says the latest move expands its national and international specialities business through taking a leading role in the malting barley trade. It adds that the biggest market potential for malting barley lies in the EU and increasingly in the growth of South American and Asian markets.
BayWa, Europe’s largest agricultural co-operative with a 2014 turnover of €15.2 billion, already owns the Cefetra feed materials trading business.
