Countrywide has a new chairman to succeed Nigel Hall, who is retiring after eight years. The change will occur at the annual general meeting in April.
He is succeeded by Gareth Thomas who joined the company’s board in January this year as a non-executive director. Mr Thomas had a 30 year career in retail with the John Lewis Partnership, where he joined the board as retail director in 2000 until his retirement in 2010. His latter role carried responsibility for a £3 billion turnover and over 30,000 employees, as well as property, design and new formats.
Since 2010, Mr Thomas has held non-executive directorships on the boards of Share plc Group and Shoppers Stop, India. He is currently a trustee of TATE and chairs Tate Enterprises, is a trustee of the American Museum in Britain, and until recently was a trustee and deputy chairman of Save the Children.
