Five new board members for the AHDB

The AHDB levy body has appointed five new members to its specialist sector boards. All five, selected through open competition, will serve three year terms from early April.

The AHDB levy body has appointed five new members to its specialist sector boards. All five, selected through open competition, will serve three year terms from early April.

Grain trader Ben Schalda-Hall and farmer Andrew Osmond join AHDB Cereals and Oilseeds. Currently operations director for Wellgrain, MrSchadla-Hall has also worked for Centaur Grain and Soufflet Agriculture. He is a member of the Trade Assurance Scheme for Combinable Crops (TASCC) working group and TASCC representative on the Red Tractor Committee, as well as sitting on the Grain & Feed Trade Association’s exporters committee.

Mr Osmond runs a mixed farming business across 1600 acres of Hampshire and Dorset. A member of the AHDB British Cereals Export committee since September 2010, he also chairs the NIAB TAG Wessex Tech Committee and sits on the British Association of Seed Producers’ board.

Reuben Collins becomes a member of AHDB Potatoes.  Mr Collins farms in Cornwall as part of a family beef, potatoes and cereals partnership. 

Richard Soffe joins AHDB Dairy. Mr Soffe is director of the Rural Business School at the Duchy & Bicton Colleges in the South West, as well as the director of Rural Business Research. His roles involve various partnerships with 18,000 farmers and rural business.

 Dr Louise Sutherland is a new member of AHDB Horticulture.  Dr Sutherland has over 25 years experience in fresh produce and soft fruit, including work with Marks & Spencer. She chairs the Red Tractor Fresh Produce Scheme and Raspberry Breeding Consortium (part funded by AHDB) as well as being a member of the Assured Food Standards Board.

“These new members have a wealth of experience in their relevant sectors as well as a passion for the industry that is crucial to these roles,” says Tom Hind, chief strategy officer of AHDB. “We look forward to them making a valuable contribution to the organisation.”
